Effect of GA3 , Ethephon , Girdling and Wiring Treatment on the Berry Enlargement and Maturity of ´ Himrod ´ Grape

Abstract

|
|
Effects of GA₃ dipping, ethephon spray, girdling and wiring of basal part of shoots on berry enlargement and maturity were investigated in ´Himrod´ grapes. Berry weight was increased by girdling and wiring regardless of GA₃ dipping. Girdling resulted in higher soluble solids content, and earlier harvesting date as much as five days than that of control. Ethephon treatment shortened harvesting date as much as two days, however berry removal force (BRF) was reduced. Dipping the flower bunch in 50 ppm GA₃ at full-bloom and 100 ppm GA₃ 10 days after full-bloom resulted in two fold berry enlargement and higher BRF, however soluble solids content was decreased and harvesting time was also delayed. GA₃+girdling and/or GA₃+wiring treatment resulted in the increase of berry enlargement, BRF, soluble solids, sugar/acid ratio as well as earlier harvesting date.
